Thought for the Week: Psalm 81:1

by admin on July 14, 2013 in Communication, Relationship, Thought for the Week with 1 Comment

Lord of lords, I delight in You! You are my first love, and I want everyone to know about You. Give me courage to be free in expressing my love for You. Give me a language of praise that is unique to our relationship. Be ever glorified in my songs, my shouts, my words, and my deeds. And as I learn to love my husband more and more, let that relationship always be a reflection of my relationship with You and not the other way around. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Father’s Blessing

by admin on March 28, 2013 in Communication, Family with 14 Comments

Because we don’t entertain the notion of a dowry anymore and because this meeting might be intimidating, it’s easy to view the father’s blessing as an antiquated act that is no longer relevant to our age of independence. Honoring one’s parents, however, is never an irrelevant act. Although you cannot force your fiancé to do this, you can ask him to and you can pray that he will.

Being a Good Steward: The Other 90%

by admin on November 6, 2012 in Budget, Communication, Faith with No Comments

The Sunday school phrase, “being a good steward,” is right on the money in its intent, especially regarding finances, but lacks direction for its application.  The one thing we all seem to walk away with is that we are supposed to tithe 10% of our income. But what about the other 90%? Unless we’ve taken…continued here

Thought for the Week: Romans 15:5-7

by admin on November 4, 2012 in Communication, Thought for the Week with No Comments

Lord, God of Truth and Peace, with You there is always a way that is good.  Show us how to get past this disagreement.  You Who gives perseverance and encouragement, please give us the same mind with one another so that, with oneness, we can be on the same page in a way that brings You glory.  Help us to receive and embrace each other and extend grace to one another, even in our differences, as You have done for us.  Be glorified in our relationship, Lord, as You bring us into oneness.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Visual Veto

by admin on October 4, 2012 in Communication, Spouse with No Comments

Men are visual creatures.  For better and for worse, what they see leaves a lasting impression on them. Men are also opinionated, which can be an asset for their leadership.  Knowing what they want will allow them to lead more confidently and definitively. But what happens when a man is thrust into the plans that his lady has…continued here

Philippians 4:8 in Marriage: True

by admin on August 14, 2012 in Communication, Faith, Relationship, Spouse, Vows with No Comments

In moments of conflict with your husband, give him the benefit of the doubt. Believe that he is on your team and that his words and actions that express otherwise are coming from an immediate emotion, not from the truth of his heart. You can deal with immediate emotions more tactfully when you don’t buy into the lie that these emotions characterize your husband’s identity and thus your marriage.

Guest Post from Reverend Danny Hall: How the Apple Falls

by admin on March 6, 2012 in Communication, Pre-Marital Counseling with No Comments

It was a beautiful day, and I was enjoying being out with my wife, my son Chris, and my daughter-in-law Lindsay. As we walked along, something came across my radar, and I reflexively made a sarcastic joke about it. Lindsay stopped in her tracks and said, “Now I get it.” A quick-witted, sarcastic humor was one of those things I had passed on to my son. This was part of our regular banter, and the apple had not fallen far from the tree.

Guest Post from Reverend Danny Hall: Family of Origin

One of the biggest adventures you will have as a bride is discovering your fiancé’s family, or should I say, your soon-to-be family.  I thank God that my adventure read more like a fairy tale; my in-laws are more wonderful than I ever could have hoped for.  Both my mother-in-law and my father-in-law bless Chris…continued here
