Thought for the Week: Psalm 107:1-3

by admin on June 2, 2013 in Guest List, Thought for the Week with No Comments

Heavenly Father, You do not mess up when You bring forth circumstances, and You do not mess up when You prevent them. I can’t fully see the great plan that you are orchestrating, and I don’t always know what You hold back when You are preventing something; all I know is how I feel about what I perceive. I confess that it will be very hard for me if (name people) doesn’t/don’t show up to the wedding. Will You please gather those who are supposed to be there and help me to trust that those who can’t come are somehow in Your will for not being there? In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The Power in a Name: Introducing Your Guests

by admin on January 17, 2013 in Guest List, Reception Traditions with No Comments

After everyone more or less knew who everyone else was, my dad gave accolades to the guest who had journeyed from Afghanistan, those who had come from Denmark, and those who had traveled from Germany.  He recognized the guests who couldn’t be there because they were serving our country in the US Armed Forces or because they were sick or had recently passed away.

Worshipful Invitations

by admin on October 23, 2012 in Guest List, Invitations with 1 Comment

Can you even imagine how much glory to God you can bring by praying over your guests by name? Not only would you be committing your invitations to God by focusing on Him while you make them, but you would also be preparing your guests to meet the Lord at your wedding in ways that only He can ordain. They might never know that you prayed for them, but I guarantee it will make a profound difference in their hearts whether they can attend your wedding or not.

The ABC’s of Making a Guest List

by admin on October 11, 2012 in Guest List, Logistics with 9 Comments

Rather than a banking on a fixed percentage, we needed a method of organization that was more flexible. We used a very traditional way to manage the variables of the guest list, which was to divide all the guests into an A List, a B List, and a C List. It sounds cruel like you are “ranking” your guests, but the lists are not based on whom you like best. They are merely a method of strategy.

Thought for the Week: Genesis 18:2-5b

by admin on September 2, 2012 in Guest List, Thought for the Week with No Comments

Lord Jesus, all that I have is Yours. Thank You for my bounty. Thank You for Your provision. Soften my heart to share what I have with others, and humble me to serve even when I have an opportunity to be honored. I desire to be more like Jesus; use my wedding to make me so. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

In Lieu of a Thank You Gift

by admin on July 26, 2012 in Budget, Gifts and Favors, Guest List, Thank You with No Comments

What is the most meaningful cause to you and your fiancé? Why not donate a small sum per guest as a token of thanks. Tell them that in lieu of a thank you gift you are donating on their behalf to a cause close to your hearts, and then invite them to care about that cause as you offer an explanation of what it means to you and how you got involved.

Thought for the Week: Matthew 22:8-9

by admin on May 20, 2012 in Guest List, Logistics, Thought for the Week with 1 Comment

Lord, You are the One Who gathers according to Your will. Be the orchestrator of my guest list and bring those who need to meet with You. You know the desires of our hearts in terms of whom we long to have at our sides during the wedding. Please honor those according to Your will. And give me peace and grace through this difficult process. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

When Guests Leave Early

by admin on November 14, 2011 in Guest List, Logistics, Reception Traditions with No Comments

Hopefully your wedding will be an exception and all your guests will stay to the end. If they don’t, however, do your best to remember that your guests do love you and they did have a good time. Their early departure is not about you or your wedding; it’s about them. And the benefit to having people leave early is that those who remain are the intimate crowd who don’t consider the reasons to leave as valuable as the reasons to stay. They are most likely the ones whom you cherish anyway.

How Many Is Too Many?

by admin on October 14, 2011 in Guest List, Logistics with No Comments

How many people you invite will largely depend on three factors: 1) Your budget, 2) Your venue, and 3) Your wedding purposes. Your wedding venue will dictate your max capacity (and implicitly, your minimum because 10 people in a grand ballroom would be ridiculous), but your dollar per head comes down to what bang you can get for your buck.

The No Show

by admin on September 28, 2011 in Guest List, Logistics with No Comments

Something that I wish someone had told me before my wedding day is that, inevitably, some guest will not show up.  Thankfully, I wasn’t keeping an eye on the name cards to see who was there and who wasn’t.  And most tables were full, so it didn’t look like anyone was missing. But there was. I…continued here
