Worship from the Start

by admin on April 23, 2015 in Ceremony Traditions, Music with 2 Comments

Many brides choose to have hymns sung as they walk down the aisle. It’s a beautiful way to tie into the history of sacred tradition as many saints have done before them. Whether a cappella or accompanied, the opening song becomes the intro to the story of the bride and groom’s marriage. At a recent…continued here

Musing over the Music

by admin on May 2, 2013 in Music, Purpose with No Comments

It’s no accident that commercials use drums and trumpets to rev us up about the powerful new car that they implicitly promise will make us superior beings. In movies, the soft, lulling strings move us to tears at the pivotal moments of heartbreak, or the thunderous orchestra ignites our adrenaline in anticipation of victory.

The Sounds of the Great Outdoors

However you are able to procure sound equipment, I recommend it because you are already losing the acoustic battle and you are also unprotected from unpredictable noise like airplanes, car horns, sirens, bird chatter, wind howls, and other outdoor melodies.  Your wedding deserves to be heard!  Sound equipment is an investment that will astronomically enhance your guests’ engagement and enjoyment, as well as your wedding video’s quality.

Ethnic Toast

I love when brides and grooms tie in a cultural family tradition to their wedding celebrations because it serves as a reminder that the bride and groom are products of the families who raised them; a marriage is a joining of families and all the heritage and traditions that go into that. The caveat, of…continued here

The Classic YouTube Bridal Party Dance

You’ve all seen it.  The classic YouTube Bridal Party Dance video.  People loved it.  People imitated it.  Then people became irritated with it (perhaps thanks to Pam and Jim’s dislike of it during their iconic Office wedding?). Well, no matter how overdone people might think it is, I love it.  If this is in line…continued here

D-I-Y A Cappella?

by admin on January 17, 2012 in Budget, Music, Reception Traditions with 1 Comment

When the money’s not flowing, we have to get creative. Recently, a couple whose budget was very tight got creative with their music. Hiring a band or a DJ is one of the larger chunks of the budget, so removing it from the equation freed up a lot of cash.

A wedding without music?

It wasn’t that this wedding lacked music entirely; it just didn’t pay for any. At a reception, it’s easy to borrow a church organ or to have friends and family play guitar, violin, or piano. The reception, however, demands a bit more creativity. Music is one of the primary determining factors of whether the party will be good. There is a party psychology, which rides on the ebb and flow of the tone, quality, energy, and familiarity of the music in the background and especially in the foreground.

Dancing in the Mine Fields

by admin on November 16, 2011 in Faith, Music, Relationship with No Comments

Marriage is a story. Like any good story, there is an opening—the engagement—that hooks you in.  There is rising action where two learn to become one.  This leads to the conflict which creates the ultimatum for one or both to change in order for life together to continue.  Once the decision has been made to…continued here

In the same manner, this CD might come in handy for you too. As a bride, you go through so many ups and downs of scheduling, budgeting, communicating, researching, compromising, processing, and reflecting that you might desperately need to soak up God’s presence in a time of refreshment for your spirit.

“Hymns to Research to.” “Hymns to Budget to.” “Hymns to Drive to Find a Dress to.” “Hymns to Be Cordial to My Future-In-Laws to.”

“Blessings” for Communion Solo

The song is a reminder that God is mysterious, God is good, God is merciful, and God redeems. What we see as broken or hopeless, God intends and uses for His mighty, wondrous plan. No matter what we are facing or how sinful we are, we are overwhelmed by the love of a perfect, holy, stunning God!

A Page Is Turned: Slideshow Song

by admin on October 12, 2011 in Music, Reception Traditions, Relationship with No Comments

Using A Page Is Turned for the slideshow keeps it short and sweet (and well organized). Because the song fits so perfectly with the bride and groom’s fairy tale love story, it feels like it was written just for them. But the song captures the redeeming nature of God’s love so well that every couple out there will also be nostalgic for their own love story.
