In My Father’s House: Wedding Homily

by admin on May 23, 2013 in Scripture, Sermon with No Comments

For the bride and groom, this homily was particularly perfect because they truly did not want to be the main focus at their wedding. They wanted it to point to the bigger and higher love of Jesus.

Powerful Love

by admin on March 26, 2013 in Faith, Purpose, Relationship, Sermon with No Comments

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us” (1 John 4:7-12).

Spectacularly…

I’m always surprised when I hear a fresh wedding homily, and yet, I’ve never heard two alike. I think my surprise is due to the fact that so many of them are so seriously great that I can’t imagine the pastor ever using a different one. Praise the Lord that He keeps His Truth spoken in fresh ways.

The Pearl

by admin on October 17, 2011 in Rings, Sermon with No Comments

At their wedding, the pastor shared a synopsis of the engagement story. He then read Matthew 13:45:

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.

The pastor reminded the guests that the groom saw it fit to sell all for his pearl, his beloved bride. The pastor then took the guests on a journey of Christ’s love. He told of how God loved each person, who though trapped inside a rough-shelled mollusk, has so much value, beauty, and distinction that God sold all He had for us by giving His Son to die and rise again for their sake.

God’s Version of Marriage

by admin on September 5, 2011 in Sermon with No Comments

As a relationship so holy that it is to echo the harmony of God’s triune goodness, it is captivating, says Torrence, that God allows this relationship to be between a man and a woman, two sinful, imperfect humans. Yet the beauty of the two imperfect humans joining in a relationship of perfect, holy origin and purpose is the refinery for God’s glory that is created.

The Royal Wedding and Authenticity of Faith

by admin on May 2, 2011 in Faith, Purity, Sermon with 54 Comments

As this relates to your own wedding, there is no hiding the fact that some will be moved by the Spirit of Christ in your relationship and wedding, and others will be offended. This is the nature of Truth being a fragrance to some and an odor to others. Your job is to be faithful and true to your Lord and Savior. If you are living in sin while preaching purity and righteousness in your lives, you are doing a disservice to the Kingdom and you need to repent immediately. If you are living above reproach for the glory of the Lord, then you can stand confidently before your guests and your God as testimony of His grace and goodness in your lives.
