Thought for the Week: Psalm 103: 10-12

by admin on June 23, 2013 in Relationship, Thought for the Week with No Comments

Heavenly Father, You are the source of true peace, love, and forgiveness. Because You are all-powerful, I know that You can forgive my husband through me even when I am too weak to do so. Let the sun never go down on my anger, and help my husband and I to work through our sin, hurt, and anger with the very grace and mercy that You have given each of us. Teach us how to love like You love. Thank You, Lord! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought for the Week: Psalm 90:12

by admin on June 16, 2013 in Faith, Relationship, Thought for the Week with No Comments

Lord, my life is but a blip compared to eternity. Give me an eternal perspective in my marriage so that I could endure the dark times and always find worth in my daily sacrifice. Help me to live with a wise heart that cherishes each moment of my life as an opportunity to know You better and to share You with others, especially in my marriage. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Receiving the Vows

by admin on June 13, 2013 in Relationship, Rings, Vows with No Comments

Receiving love from someone, even in moments when you don’t want to, is a strong statement of trust, humility, and gratitude. Receiving your spouse’s promise to love faithfully, especially in moments where you might not clearly see it acted on, is an even stronger statement of faith in God to uphold the promise in all circumstances.

With both the wedding vows and the ring vows, consider taking the time in your ceremony to acknowledge and receive the commitment your spouse is making to you. You can add a spoken acknowledgment that your guests can hear or you can make it a private look in each other’s eyes or a squeeze of your hands that is just between the two of you in order to say, “Yes, I receive your promise for our marriage.”

Marriage from Prayer, Letter 3

by admin on June 11, 2013 in Faith, Purity, Relationship with No Comments

One of my favorite things about you is that you put Christ before everything.  You pray for me and I hear the words my heart longs to receive.  Your voice is the instrument of our Lord.  Such sweet breath.  Such lovely words.  I am amazed that you, being so sweet and lovely, have chosen me to be your husband.  How grateful I am.  How wonderful you are.  How beautiful.  How excellent.

This is Beautiful

I began learning the hovering feeling once we said “I Do.” It’s one of refinement without pressure to succeed. One of raw vulnerability concealed in grace.

Praying Together

by admin on May 21, 2013 in Faith, Purity, Relationship with No Comments

Coming before the throne of grace together as a married couple will bring such blessing into your marriage. When both people are individually confessing their sins and soaking up the awe of God’s presence, both people will begin to conform to the image of Christ. And when both people in a marriage do that together, there is an un-replicated unity of authentic selves.

Ex’s and Oh-my’s

by admin on May 14, 2013 in Relationship with 1 Comment

Have you ever heard the story about the newlywed husband who invited his ex-girlfriend over when his wife was out? It’s a funny story. Or at least it is now, but when it actually happened to me, I did not find much humor in it at all.

Thought for the Week: Romans 12:3

by admin on April 21, 2013 in Relationship, Thought for the Week with No Comments

Father, You are so creative and vast in Your design. Forgive me that I judge those who aren’t me and that I want to control those who do things differently from me. Help me to see the masterpiece in my husband that You see. Release me from my assumption that different is less valuable. I never want my husband to believe that he is not good enough for me, and I never want to rob You of the many ways You receive our worship. Teach me instead how to embrace my husband and to learn from his differences, for they are good! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
