A Father’s Blessing

by admin on March 28, 2013 in Communication, Family with 15 Comments

Because we don’t entertain the notion of a dowry anymore and because this meeting might be intimidating, it’s easy to view the father’s blessing as an antiquated act that is no longer relevant to our age of independence. Lord, victorious and almighty God, protect my marriage. Use the steps that we take for our marriage health and multiply their impact for good. Cancel our pride, and help us never to forget that we need You. Be our wisdom, strength, and revelation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought for the Week: Psalm 127: 1-2

Lord, I know my money can go to other things that are more important than a wedding.  I know that I don’t need a big wedding to have a great marriage.  And I know that there are other imminent needs in my life that deserve more attention than my wedding planning.  But please, Lord, show me how to plan my wedding for Your glory so that I would rejoice to spend time on it and not feel distracted or guilty or selfish.  To Your glory, not to mine.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

At their wedding, the pastor shared a synopsis of the engagement story. He then read Matthew 13:45:

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.

The pastor reminded the guests that the groom saw it fit to sell all for his pearl, his beloved bride. The pastor then took the guests on a journey of Christ’s love. He told of how God loved each person, who though trapped inside a rough-shelled mollusk, has so much value, beauty, and distinction that God sold all He had for us by giving His Son to die and rise again for their sake.

This is a person of the same sex with whom you meet on regular intervals and who addresses specific areas of your life with you that you desire growth in.
