Proverbs 31 Wife: Loved

by admin on April 10, 2012 in Faith, Family, Purpose with No Comments

The reason why her children called her blessed and her husband praised her was because of verse 30: “A woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.” When we love the Lord faithfully and transparently, praise will be bestowed on us.

Proverbs 31 Wife: Rooted in Christ

by admin on April 5, 2012 in Faith, Family, Purpose with No Comments

“Strength and dignity are her clothing, And she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness” (Proverbs 31:25-27). Just this morning I was reading Lysa…continued here

Proverbs 31 Wife: Prepared

by admin on April 3, 2012 in Faith, Family, Purpose with 10 Comments

I don’t like sleeping alone in my home. Sounds childish, I know. But I really don’t. My imagination still activates when I hear a strange noise or see an odd shadow. I plan my escape routes just in case, which in reality, does more to frighten me than to calm me. There is just something about having Chris home that makes me feel safe. I know he would fight for my protection, which allows me to relax in his presence.

Proverbs 31 Wife: Grateful

by admin on March 29, 2012 in Faith, Purpose with 55 Comments

“She puts her hands to the distaff, And her hands hold the spindle. She opens her hand to the poor, And reaches out her hands to the needy” (Proverbs 31:19-20). The best medicine for discontentment is gratitude.  We would all prefer for gratitude to bubble naturally from the spring of our spirit, but let’s be…continued here

Proverbs 31 Wife: Endeavoring

by admin on March 27, 2012 in Faith, Family, Purpose with 20 Comments

Considering verse 18 in light of the spiritual analogy behind it, we need not feel bullied by how hard this woman works (even when we apply it in the literal, practical sense) when we remember our own sweet devotion to the Lord and our desire to toil for Him in the light of His glory!

Proverbs 31 Wife: Strong

by admin on March 22, 2012 in Faith, Purpose, Relationship with No Comments

Girding ourselves with strength is derived from the notion of men girding up their long robes around their loins (symbolizing a source of strength) when they were embarking on a task that was particularly difficult work. In other words, we are to put strength, commitment, and focus into our tasks.

Proverbs 31 Wife: Thoughtful

by admin on March 20, 2012 in Faith, Purpose, Relationship with No Comments

Because a wife is one flesh with her husband and is a guardian to her children, everything she does affects her family in some way. When she can see this as her lens for decision-making, she will more aptly think through the ramifications of her choices.

Proverbs 31 Wife: Sacrificial

by admin on March 15, 2012 in Faith, Family, Relationship with 52 Comments

Whatever it is, try to lose the phrase, “I just need to do this for myself,” from your vocabulary. Usually what that means is we are trying to root our identity in results rather than in Christ. Or it means that there is a problem in our marriage that we aren’t willing to work on. Or, often, it means that we find happiness in pampering or creative outlets rather than in the charges that God has anointed us with in this season; it shows a lack of contentment with the role God has us in, and it shows a distrust that He is providing us with all that we need.

Proverbs 31 Wife: Assiduous

by admin on March 13, 2012 in Faith, Relationship with 3 Comments

“She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands. She is like the ships of the merchant, she brings her food from far away” (Proverbs 31:13-14). How valuable a hard-working woman is to her family!  Certainly in the sense of financial ease does a working woman benefit her household, but also in the non-employed…continued here

Proverbs 31 Wife: Respectful

by admin on March 8, 2012 in Faith, Relationship, Spouse with 1 Comment

I think Henry gives great snap shots of a Proverbs 31 Wife, but from what I know about men and marriage, I would simplify his description down to one action: respect.  A wife who can unconditionally respect her husband is one who will do him good and not harm, one who will increase the return on his investment of trusting in her.
