The Sweet Christian Bride

The Everyday Date

“Hey, date,” Chris said to me as we were driving to the store to run errands.

In my mind, this wasn’t a date at all; this was a to-do list that we were tackling together.  But I liked it.  I liked that I was his date for our shopping adventure.  Two people who like each other doing something important together…yeah, you know, it did have the same ring as a date.

Shopping that day was so much more fun than usual.

“Hey, date,” he said to me as we drove home from work together.  We never carpool because we work in different places and at different hours, but on that day, I couldn’t drive due to a neck injury.

Since that injury, Chris had done nothing but serve me.  He came with me to the doctor, he opened every door, he carried all my things, he prepared all my meals, and he cleaned the house.  He did everything, including taking me to and from work.

Despite all the service required of him, he still saw the occasion as a date with his honey.  There we were, two people who liked each other, sitting together on a drive, having enjoyable conversation.  We were on our way to eat dinner together and to watch a movie.  That did sound like a date, no matter that our drive was home from work, our dinner would be cooked by him, and our movie was on our own TV.  It was a date!

The truth is, it doesn’t take much to turn everyday routines or ordinary events into a date.  All you have to do is focus on the fact that you like each other and that you are doing something together that will bear fruit in your relationship.

How can you take an everyday date today?
