The Sweet Christian Bride

Thought for the Week: 1 Timothy 4:16

“Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers”(1 Timothy 4:16).

My guess is that no bride intends to be a Bridezilla.  But with the converging of various (and often incompatible) opinions within the confines of a deadline and budget, it’s not inconceivable to think that any of us could be one.  Even if we keep it together with the conflicting parties, we might vent haphazardly in a way that seeps discontentment, judgment, bitterness, or greed.  My own wedding planning certainly had its ups and downs, and it was as intentional and prayerful as we could make it.

Brides expect to be in the spotlight at their wedding, but they can easily forget that people are watching them during the planning too.  Paul’s admonition to Timothy serves as a good reminder to be above reproach in all of your bridal encounters.  Or, as Atticus Finch was described in To Kill A Mockingbird, to be the same person in your home as you are outside of it.  You never know who has decided to learn about Christ from you: a friend, a vendor, a family member, etc.

Lord, may the words of my mouth, the thoughts in my mind, and the desires of my heart be pleasing to You.  Where I have fault, show me so I can let You restore me.  Help me be an honorable ambassador to You, especially in this time of my life when I am in the spotlight.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
