Thought for the Week: Esther 4:14

“[…] Perhaps you have come to royal dignity for just such a time as this”(Esther 4:14).

Esther’s story is such a beautiful picture of God’s divine plan unfolding through circumstances that are far less than ideal.  As a minority orphan, she is thrust into the ranks of royalty and called upon to risk her very life to save the lives of her people.  As she sifts through her fears, longing for guidance for what to do, she is given the above piece of counsel.

How many times do we desire escape in our own lives because our current circumstances are uncomfortable or downright miserable?  But perhaps it is exactly those circumstances that God has desired to use for His glory.  With weddings in particular, God gives purpose to this holy gathering.  Maybe your wedding is exactly the occasion needed to bring joy or reconciliation to your family.  Maybe it’s the spiritual challenge in someone’s heart as they come face to face with the love of Christ that they see in your marriage.  Maybe the issues that are brought up for you are precisely the ones you need to work through in this season to be ready for the next.  Who knows but God?  Pray on this.  Ask God to show you how He is using you in this very time.

Father, God of wonders and goodness, use my life for Your glory.  Give me courage to stay where You have put me, so You can use me for greatness in my current circumstances.  And use my wedding to work out eternal purposes in my family and friends.  Prepare us all to encounter Your power and to be faithful and available to Your workings.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
