Thought for the Week: John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

You are loved.  You know that, I presume, if you have said yes to marry someone.  But do you know that in the truest sense of the word?  Do you know that Almighty God, Creator of Heaven and Earth, loves you wildly and absolutely?  At times this love might seem farcical or fleeting to you—difficult to understand or receive—but marriage can help change that.

In your life together with your husband, you will learn how to receive love.  As you journey through your own process of learning to love your husband unconditionally, your capacity to receive his grace and his love for you will increase accordingly; you will come to understand that they do not rely on your performance or worth.  And this phenomenal love in marriage is merely a faint echo of the grace and love that God Almighty wants to give you every day.  The more you learn unconditional love in your marriage, the easier it becomes to comprehend God’s infinite love for you.

Lord, thank You that my marriage can be used to usher me into Your love!  What a gift!  Help me to receive love from my husband in order to better receive love from You.  And as I am filled with Your love, teach me how to love my husband unconditionally—that I wouldn’t rejoice merely to receive love, but even more so to give it.  Forgive me when I believe that I am unlovable and unwanted.  Shatter that lie and replace it with the Truth that I am unconditionally loved and have been invited by You to join You in eternity.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
