Thought for the Week: Psalm 119:9

“How can young people keep their way pure?  By guarding it according to your word” (Psalm 119:9).

Purity is of the Lord.  He is the only One void of sin, perfect in His righteousness.  It makes sense, then, that our purity must be rooted in Him.  Life is tough.  Our minds are quickly adulterated by impure images and messages each morning.  Our sexuality is tempted constantly.  Our bodies are eager for gluttony and lethargy.  Whether in our hearts, minds, or bodies, we will always be a magnet for impurity until Christ returns.

The way to guard our purity is to delight in the Lord, to savor His Word, and to choose Him continually.  Scripture is a passageway to the heart of God.  It guides, encourages, rebukes, and guards our hearts so that we can know the will of the Father and receive strength to choose it.  Where is there impurity in your heart, mind, or body today?  Read Scripture, and ask God to show you your sin so that it might not have a hold over you in your faith or in your marriage.

Holy God, You are perfect in every way.  Show me my sin, Lord, and give me the courage to face it, to confess it, and to lay it at Your feet so that You would help me repent.  Heal me and restore me on a daily basis.  I do not want anything to stand between You and me or between my husband and me, so bring to light anything that is currently in darkness.  Show me how to use Your Word to guard myself from future sin.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
