Thought for the Week: Psalm 84:10

“Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked” (Psalm 84:10).

I love this psalm!  When you read it, do you get that wonderful, old-school worship tune in your head like I do?  I love this psalm because it speaks the eternal perspective that I lack on a daily basis.  When I read it, a flood of Truth washes over me and restores me to right thinking.  Not one thing in my life will compare to the glory of being in God’s courts, even for just one day.  Nothing.

This is good news!  We all have jubilation and exuberance in our days, and you are likely experiencing that now in your engagement and will experience it on your wedding.  Even your wedding bliss will feel lifeless when you are in the presence of God in heaven.  Can you imagine?  What anticipation and hope we have!

And what perspective we have also!  If today is crummy, if your expectations have fallen short, if death or disease has been knocking, if relationships have failed you, if you aren’t feeling good enough, if your wedding is a day of blunders….whatever “if’s” you could possibly imagine, remember that this is not your eternity.  You were made for more than even the good parts of this life.  One day, you will stand in the courts of our Lord and these troubles will melt away.  Praise be to our glorious God!

Lord, You are mighty, splendid, awesome, and spectacular!  One day, I will get to be in the presence of Your full glory.  Remind me when I feel troubled that today is but a blip; I will get to have eternity with You.  And even in the troubles of today, Your Spirit is with me.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
