Thought for the Week: Song of Solomon 3:4

“…I found him whom my soul loves….” (Song of Solomon 3:4).

Something Chris said to me sings out in my heart today: “Lindsay, I never thought I could love you more than I did when I married you, but I do every day.”  Treasure to my soul.  And I feel the exact same way.  Today, Chris and I have been married for 6 years.  That’s 2190 days of loving each other more than we did on our wedding day!

Each day is a choice to love.  To be totally honest, there are a number of those 2190 days where he and I have chosen to love ourselves more than each other.  That’s the nature of sin in us.  But we have committed to confess our sins together and to never go to bed angry.  Even on the selfish days and in the darkest times of our marriage, we desired to get through those for the purpose of glorifying God in our marriage, not for the sake of harboring more benefits for ourselves.  God honored that endurance, for He was the One who placed that desire in our hearts.  He has brought such uncharted joy into our marriage.   Chris and I truly believe that God gave us this marriage to last until death do us part, so the choices we have made and will continue to make on a daily level must reflect that.

Praise the Lord for a marriage worth fighting for!  Praise the Lord for a marriage worth working on!  Praise the Lord for a marriage worth more than we could ever put a price on! (And thank you for allowing me to brag on our marriage.  I hope you all take occasion to brag on yours too!)

Lord, every day is a day to love my husband more.  Every day is a day to practice humility for the sake of Your glory in my marriage.  Every day is a gift that I desire to slow down, receive, and relish in.  Lord, help me every day to walk in the fullness of your abundant joy and blessing that you desire for my marriage.  Praise be to God!  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
